Common questions about my treatments, booking, and what to expect at your appointment.
Do I need to be an athlete to visit?
Not at all! While I specialise in sports recovery and work with elite athletes, I also treat 'weekend warriors' and anyone who simply wants to get moving and enjoy an active life. My goal is to help you be your best self, regardless of your fitness level.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Most clients feel very little discomfort. Acupuncture needles are extremely fine, and much thinner than the needles used for injections. You might feel a slight sensation or a dull ache when the needle reaches the correct point, which is actually a good sign that the treatment is working (this is known as 'De Qi').
What is Cupping and will it leave marks?
Cupping is a traditional therapy used to increase blood flow and promote healing in tight muscle groups. It can leave circular marks on the skin that look like bruises, but they are generally not painful. These marks are a result of stagnant blood being brought to the surface and usually fade within a few days to a week.
What is Gua sha massage and will it leave marks?
Gua sha massage is a traditional healing technique that uses a smooth-edged tool to firmly or gently scrape the skin, helping to improve blood flow, relieve muscle tension, and reduce inflammation. Petechiae or slight bruising may occur but this usually fades completely within 2-5 days.
How long is a typical treatment session?
Initial consultations typically last 60-75 minutes as I take time to understand your health history and goals. Follow-up treatments are usually 45-60 minutes. I believe in thorough, personalised care rather than rushing through appointments.
How do I book an appointment?
The easiest way to book is online via my 'Book Appointment' button, which links directly to my Cliniko calendar. You can also call me on 0408 817 985 if you have specific questions before booking.
What should I wear to my appointment?
It is best to wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the areas being treated (e.g., knees, shoulders, back). If you are coming for a sports recovery session, athletic wear is perfect.
Do you offer health fund rebates?
Yes, as a qualified Acupuncturist (Bachelor of Health Science), my services are generally claimable with most private health funds. Please check with your specific provider to confirm your level of cover.
